Our head Chef, Craig Brown, and his highly skilled team of local Chefs prepare menus each day, reflecting local seasonal fresh produce.
Beautiful muted shades by Farrow and Ball, compliment the mixture of new and antique pieces, such as the stunning antler chandeliers and centuries-old portraits, adding grandeur to this classic and charismatic room.
After dinner, why not relax over coffee and home made petit fours in the newly furbished library or retreat to the Lounge for a wee dram.
The Ulbster Arms Hotel prides itself on using only the best local produce and our seasonal menus reflect this. Guests are encouraged to make special requests, and should you wish to try some of the wonderful variety of freshly available local seafood, such as halibut, scallops, lobster or langoustines, we will endeavour to source these from local fishing boats who land at nearby harbours.
Mey Select beef, lamb and pork feature regularly in our menus, reared locally and raised on the lush, green pastures between sea and moorland, are second to none in quality and flavour. Venison and game from the hills and moors beyond are also readily available.
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
A plentiful, local supply of fruit and vegetables ensures that we can always put the freshest of accompaniments to your meal, on the table.
Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served each day in our lounge bar and dining room.

Excellent Food and Service. My family had an excellent meal at The Ulbster Arms in Halkirk. Our party consisted of seven adults and five children the eldest of which was six. We dined in the marquee behind the main hotel at 5pm. The food was excellent and the service first class. Everyone enjoyed the experience and we would highly recommend this hotel. Brilliant Hotel. This is a lovely hotel, full of character. It is very clean and the service was wonderful. We stayed in the attic room which had a free standing bath in the room. The room was very big and overlooked the river. It was lovely watching the fish jump out of the water. jgaske777008, July 2021.
Exceptional Food. The Ulbster Arms is a historic hotel in the tranquil village of Halkirk, within striking distance of all that Caithness has to offer. The staff are incredibly warm and friendly whilst the food is top quality. Will definitely be returning! Jonathan W, June 2021

Simply Outstanding. From the minute we were seated in ‘the library’ to the minute we left the staff were very attentive. Wide choice on menu as well as a daily specials menu. We had duck and linguini followed by a delicious pudding of sticky toffee and apple and blueberry crumble with butterscotch sauce. Can’t fault it! Highly recommend. 584donnag, October 2020
