Dog-friendly hotel rooms

Dogs are welcome in most of our hotel rooms upon prior arrangement with our friendly team. Within hotel public areas, dogs are very welcome at the bottom of the bar area as well as in our library and lounge spaces. We have thoughtfully chosen these designated areas to allow both dog owners and other guests to coexist harmoniously, providing a serene atmosphere for all. So snuggle up by the fire for a tipple or enjoy a delicious Scottish dinner with your special pet beside you.

We do have a few simple house rules to ensure that every guest, human or canine, enjoys their stay. You can read our full dog-friendly policy here.

Testimonials

Home from home – fantastic hotel with excellent accommodation, food and location for fishing the river Thurso. Staff are particularly impressive, with all very keen to help – to be warmly recommended.

My wife and I while backpacking had camped along the banks of the Thurso. We were awaken by a fisherman after a very cold, wet and windy night. He recommended we visit the Ulbster for lunch and a warm drink. The staff had gotten word from the fisherman that my wife and I had slept in the storm that night and were kind enough to put us up in a room at a very discounted price. We were able to shower which had been quit a while and it allowed us to dry out our clothes and equipment. The following morning the staff let us leisurely hangout and even suggested several things we see and do while we finished our tour of scotland. I can not speak highly enough of the staff at the hotel. Dinner was amazing as well !!! If you ever want to hear some amazing fishing stories just take a seat and enjoy. Cant wait to return.

Stayed here 4 times now on fishing trips and it is always excellent. The team are particularly cheery and everything is ” no bother”. Knowledgeable fishing guides as well. Food is good with nice choice at breakfast and the local seafood is very fresh.

After many years hoping , with good friends I finally got my first opportunity to visit for an angling trip last week of season. I stayed in a chalet which was spotless each day no matter how bad I I had managed to leave it.. The food was exceptional, no other words and its testimony how many non fishers are in every day from late afternoon dining.

Fishing was all the more made special by morning encouragement from Geordie, The two Pats and all the rest of the team that were always around to see everyone off…

Finally I cant point out that not one staff member that was nothing but professional and charming.. Its a small hotel operation at first glance, but its a much bigger operation than you imagine. It gets everything right and I cant wait to return. Whether as angler or just a resident guest… quite excellent.. All I can say.. They are very good at what they do and can feel proud …

Had a great stay here, staff were very friendly and the rooms are clean and well decorated, all staff are very attentive and I will be back again!! Terri was very informative taking us a tour around the hotel and giving advise on local walks and fun things to do.
